Australia supplies a diverse range of delicious seafood to the local and international  markets. Separated from other continents by vast oceans, Australia is regarded  as one of the world’s cleanest environments to operate in.

Competitive advantages

Its location  across a number of climate zones results in many different aquatic environments,  such as open-ocean, reefs, estuaries, inshore areas and freshwater habitats. This produces a diversity of species high in demand across the globe.

Australia is the world’s third largest fishing zone covering 11 million square kilometers, extending 200 nautical miles out to sea

Markets
Rock lobster, prawns, tuna  and abalone are the biggest exports with Japan, China and the US as Australia's major export countries.

Types
More than 600 marine and freshwater  species are caught in Australian waters, with Western Australia, South Australia and Queensland producing the most fish.

Aquaculture, or fish  farming, is a fast-growing industry. More than 60 species  are farmed, including prawns, mussels, Pacific and Sydney rock oysters, salmon and tuna.
