Vegetables
Australia grows a wide variety of high quality vegetables including Asian vegetables.
Products
Crops in greatest production are potato, tomato, carrot, onion and lettuce. Other crops include:
- pumpkin, rockmelon, cantaloupe, watermelon, cauliflower, cabbage, peas, sweet corn, mushroom, capsicum, celery, broccoli, beetroot and beans (all more than 20,000 tonnes per year)
- asparagus, cucumber, sweet potato and leek (10,000 to 20,000 tonnes)
- Chinese cabbage, parsnip, sprouts and melon (5000 to 10,000 tonnes).
Asian vegetables
More than 1600 growers in Australia provide international and domestic markets with more than 80 types of Asian vegetables and herbs.
Products
- Chinese cabbages
- leafy vegetables, including bok choy (white cabbage), kai laan (Chinese broccoli), choy sum (Chinese flowering cabbage) and bor choi (Chinese spinach)
- herbs (including coriander, Vietnamese mint, kaffir lime leaves and parsley), ginger, garlic, wasabi, watercress, spring onion and shallots
- daikon, burdock, taro, gourds and kabocha (butternut squash)
- mushroom, luffa (sin qua) and okra.
Availability
The diversity of climates gives Australia the ability to supply some fruits all year round.
